The stores air conditioner went out, it was like 95 degrees inside at 7:30pm, half the players left but 10 players stayed, I mean it was HOT, we left the front door open and had 4 fans blowing on us to try to cool us off .... it didn't work at all.

Round 1 vs "My Son: Matt" Valakut Ramp
(We even sign up at different times trying to avoid getting paired up in the first round ..... appears we did not do it good enough haha)
Game 1: Matt mulligans down to 6 cards, then he goes to 5 cards and keeps a hand he clearly isn't happy with. He blisters my ass. I come out soso and he draws into the exact cards he needs and rolls over me without a second thought.
Game 2: I sideboard up, figuring this was all a waste of time. We both knew my deck could not beat Matt's Valakut Ramp deck. Matts like I'm not even gonna sideboard, I don't need to. I ramp out very very fast, he seems to have good ramp spells but has not drawn a big threat, he tries to Summoning Trap, I Mana Leak it and beat him to death with Sphinx and a Frost Titan.
Game 3: So, he sideboards this game and draws 7 cards and smiles, looks at me and say "no way you win this game" I let out a sigh of defeat and play on. Obviously he had a god hand with 2 Forests. He does not draw another Forest until turn 6, but by that time I have a hand full of Into the Roils and Mana Leaks. Game Over!

I was shocked, of course everyone in the store was like ... "we knew you would win" lol wow I got them fooled haha. Anyways a game that was a certain losss ends up a win. I am SHOCKED!

2-1 1-0

Round 2 vs Mono Green Overwhelming Stampede Aggro
(This is pretty much the same deck I took to Atlanta in December with a few changes)
Game 1: I go first, he T2 Leatherback Baloth, I end of his turn Into the Roil it back to his hand, I untap and do nothing till he tried to play Baloth again and I Mana Leak. I Untap and play Jace, the Mind Sculptor. I have enough out to chump block his big dudes and fly over with Consecrated Sphinx for the win.
Game 2: he gets stuck on 3 mana, this is a simple match for me.

4-1 2-0

Round 3 vs Splinter Twin combo deck
(This is the stores top dog, there #1 player. This guy is cocky, arrogant and so stuck on himself I swear I wanted to just punch him as I listened to him talk about himself I had told the store owner as we stood outside that I wanted to play this guy so I could beat his ass) (Just watching the guy play in the earlier matches, he just played like he was god all mighty)
Game 1: Long game, LONG game. I countered his first attempt at comboing off. The second time he tried to Combo off I Into the Roil his creature before he could enchant it with Splinter Twin. I win by attacking with creatures.
(I have to listen to him tell me how much better his deck was than mine the entire time we side board. I never say a word, I just smile) (All I heard was "Your deck should not even come close to beating this deck) bla bla (Insert the Charlie Brown teacher voice here)
Game 2: he gets stuck on 3 lands and cannot play any of his big stuff, all the important little stuff I either kill off or Counter it or bounce it. To put it simply ... I totally destroyed him in Game 2.
(I can feel people patting me on the back and cheering beneath there breath in the back ground) The guy is not well liked, I mean he is just annoying as hell and for me to Smoke him like that, I believe if the other guys had there sisters with them they woulda handed em over to me for the night haha.

6-1 3-0

Finals: is vs the guy I beat in Round 2. It was like 1am and we were all hot, sticky and tired so me and him decided to take a draw, split the 1st and 2nd place prizes and go to the house.

This is week #2 that I have went to there store in back to back weeks and I am STILL undefeated. The store owner told everyone, the first person that beats me 2 out of 3 in a match get a free Booster pack of cards haha. Now I have a bounty on my head. If we had played out the finals it would have been a VERY easy win for me and the other guy knew it, his deck was just a little easy to lock down if I caught it early in the game as I did the first time. So we split in the Finals.

Round 1 vs Mono Green Elves 2-0 1-0
Game 1: He comes out pretty fast, I pull the combo and at the end of turn 4 I flash in Exarch, untap and play Twin, but he Naturalizes it. I draw go for 3 more turns and top deck another Twin with Duress to cast prior and draw out a Back to nature then combo off for the win.
Game 2: I board in light. He starts out pretty good but I am able to stall by countering, bouncing and Dismembering his dudes. I combo off around T6, maybe T7.

Round 2 vs White Knights 2-0 2-0
Game 1: he comes out pretty well pretty early. Into the Roil, Mana Leak and Dismembers keep him off any serious threats and once my Spell Kits hit the board to block, I easily found my combo and went off.
Game 2: Not a hard matchup, combo off around T7-8.

Round 3 vs RDW 2-0 3-0
Game 1: Spellskite easily handled his burn, removal and bounce kept him from hurting me much. Combo off around T7.
Game 2: Duress removing key threats slowed him down enough for me to combo off around T8.

Round 4 vs Mono Black Infect 1-1-1 3-0-1
This was the guy that took second last week at FNM vs U/R Splinter Twin
Game 1: I easily combo off on him although he has me at 8 Poison.
Game 2: Very close game, I cannot draw a red source .... did not help not drawing into any card draw at all to dig for the combo either. he kills me, I go ahead and draw my next card, Big Jace, so were like do the Brainstorm, card #3 was Splinter Twin and my top card was a Scalding tarn. he was dead next turn /sigh.
Game 3: Pretty tight game, we are playing pretty fast trying to finish the game because time is running out in the round. Time does get called and we have the standard 5 turns to play, neither of us can finish the game so we draw.

Finals vs the Round 4 Fella.
Game 1: Pretty tight game, I had to Mana Leak 2 Skittles before comboing off on him.
Game 2: He has a bad land hand, and is stuck on two lands. Easy win, I hated beating him like that, he was a cool guy and a fun guy to play.
2-0 & 5-0-1 Overall

I go ahWell, just got back from Atlanta (4 1/2 hour drive home sucks) from the tcgplayer 5k ... had a GREAT time there, met a lot of folks, even met a guy on these forums that I had become good internet friends with, that was cool meeting him. The comic con combined with the tcg tourny was super amazing. I took Stampeding Green as I said I would. I had predicted a lot of Ramp being there mostly Valakut Ramp and Eldrazi Ramp. I figured I would also see alot of RDW decks there as well. So I geared my deck to beat those, I thought Control would be there in force, but not as in force as it was .... WOW at the Control decks, they were everywhere. The deck I took is below.

Day 1: (The Grinders) I went 0-4 with this deck, I was crushed, thinking what in the hell have I done bringing this deck to Atlanta, it failed vs everything although several games I had horrible luck and some bad draws so I dunno where the problem was. I played 4 matches .....

Game 1: vs Valakut Ramp - I thought heck yea! I had planned on this deck being there and thought an easy win was coming, I not only got beat, I got embarrassed. 0-2

Game 2: vs Boros - The guy came out both games so fast I just shook my head in wonder. Sword of Body and Mind really sucks vs Mono Green 0-2

Game 3: vs U/W Vensir Control - Vensir's ultimate really sucks when it gets used on me :( 0-2 total domination

Game 4: vs RDW - g1 he runs all over me, had me at 9 T3. g2 I board in Obstinate Baloth's and a few other things and easily win. g3 worst than game 1 /sigh 1-2

So I leave around 8:30pm heading to the Hotel with my son who came in 2nd in one Grinder and won a few other matches by never won a Grinder and we hit the bed. I was really discusted when I left thinking maybe I would just go home because I only brought the one deck with me.

Saturday tcg 5k Tournament!

I took my camera with me and got tons of video footage. I plan to put it all together tomorrow and upload it onto YouTube so if anyone wants to see it, PM me tomorrow and Ill send you think link to the video.

I arrive an hour before the tourny starts having pre registered the day before. My spirits were not high at all ... I figured I would be 0-2 by lunch and heading home. met up with some friends the night before, chatted and finally the matchups for round 1 were posted. I'll post up a report below, not a play by play but just thoughts from memory of each match up.

Note: I still expected to see Valakut, Eldrazi and RDW as the most popular decks. I feared the BuG Control matchup since that was the one deck I could not beat, lost every game vs that deck in testing.

Round 1 vs BUG Control (Depression really is setting in now) I was so upset, the one deck I feared and I catch it in the very first round /sigh.
G1 I come out really slow, and am not mounting a hard thread on him and I end up losing to Frost Titan. It was not pretty to watch.
G2 I come out really fast, he cannot keep up with my threats and I Overwhelming Stampede on T5, he loses very fast. 1-1
G3 Game 3 started and we sit at around 7 minutes remaining before round 1 ends. We are playing pretty fast and I am building up for a Overwhelming Stampede around T6 but he is keeping my creatures knocked down pretty well. Time runes out, the Judge comes and issues the 5 round rule. We cannot finish the game within the 5 rounds he gives us so we end up with a tie. I count myself fortunate vs this guy, he was pretty decent and he piloted the deck that I fear the most.

Round 2 vs Boros (The same Boros Guy from last nights Grinders that swept me 2-0) So, I am thinking .... ARE YOU SERIOUS??? I mean REALLY ... how bad can this possibly get? . This guy has a REALLY good Boros deck.
G1 He comes out pretty fast, I end up stabilizing around T4 though. He does get a Sword of Body and Mind on a creatures and Mills me twice though but I get a Overwhelming Stampede mid game and win. 1-0
G2 Almost the same as Game 1 only a little faster. ok so I am a little better now, that felt good getting a little payback. 2-0

Round 3 vs BUG Control (My luck really sucks today) I had heard some talk about this guy earlier, he is a "really" good player. He also has a very very good deck. I sit down and tell him grats on his Round 3 win jokingly since I knew I was about to lose vs this guy. When I checked the pairings list, his friends saw me paired up with him and told me I was about to lose.
G1 I come out pretty good, I am getting threats down and he is not removing them that well but ... he is ramping up VERY fast. Up to T5 he has been abusing the hell out of a Oracle of Mul Daya but hasn't went off yet, he is drawing cards by the hand fulls looking for his Titans, he taps out but I see he finally grabs a Titan so next turn I know I am dead. I do the math and chance a Overwhelming Stampede praying he does not have a counter ................... he doesn't. I was so shocked I cannot even begin to tell you lol. 1-0
G2 Its ugly, he goes off turn 5 while keeping my threats off the table. I scoop mid game because I knew I had lost and time was running low, something like 14 minutes left in the round.
G3 This was a game I will not soon forget, T5 Overwhelming Stampede ... and I catch him tapped out. This guy was a really good player I tell ya. He really took the loss hard but I have a lot of respect for him, he played an excellent game. 2-1

2-0-1

I am scratching my head trying to figure out how I got this far, I am at the top table now with a deck that got embarrassed the night before.

Round 4 vs RUG Control lol I swear, I am not catching any breaks today.
G1 I come out really fast .... T1 Llanowar Elves T2 Birds of Paradise x2 and have a T3 Acidic Slime, T4 Acidic Slime & a T5 Acidic Slime leaving him at 2 lands. Somehow he stabilizes and draws into lands and locks me down for the win. I was crushed, I had this guy beat too 0-1
G2 I came out a little slower than game 1 but still came out fast, he kills off every Mana Dork I put on the table and commences to beating my ass. 0-2

2-1-1 ok so now I get put in my place, I am thinking now I can settle down and start winning again. The pressure of a loss is gone now.

Round 4 vs U/W Control (Big surprise, another Control Deck)
G1 I come out REALLY fast, throwing out threats on a nice curve every turn. To sum this game up, he Day of Judgement's me 3 times this game, I just never regain control from that. 0-1
G2 This game I come out really fast again, maybe even faster than game 1. He draws every Journey to Nowhere all 4 copies and keeps me locked down with counter back up until he decides to Day of Judgement and clear the board. He stabilizes after that and I never got control back. 0-2

2-2-1 I go ahead and drop from the tournament.

Overall it was a fun weekend for me, the meta game was not what I expected, I think I took the right deck to this tournament, but I did not tune the sideboard how it needed to be tuned and I could have adjusted the main deck a little more for this meta if I had known the decks that were there. The deck did fairly well, I had some of the worst possible match ups even though I did well for the first 4 rounds or so. ahh well maybe next time.

PS x2: I may not be 100% perfect on the play by plays, I tried to keep em as close as memory allows.

The Star Wars Saga Rereleased in 3-D

The Star Wars saga is about to get a lot more dimensional. Lucasfilm announced Tuesday that all six Star Wars movies will return to theaters in 3-D, according to Variety. The first film to hit screens will be Episode I: The Phantom Menace — it’ll be released wide sometime in 2012. The movies’ 3-D conversion is being handled by outside vendors and will be overseen by Industrial Light & Magic visual effects supervisor John Knoll. “It’s not going to look like [conversions] we’ve seen in the past,” Knoll told Variety. Stereoscopic conversion has been a sticky subject of late, especially after the much-criticized last-minute conversions of movies like Clash of the Titans and The Last Airbender.

Knoll also said that George Lucas isn’t planning to further “enhance” any of the visual effects this time around. When the original trilogy was rereleased in 1997, Lucas altered several scenes and tinkered with many of the effects — much to many fans’ dismay.

I just watched this movie with my friends and family and I enjoyed it very much. It had a different feel to it than I am used to but overall I liked it and encourage everyone who has not seen this movie to check it out.

Thought I would post this up, since it is sort of funny. I was getting sort of close to the 20,000 post count on the VN Boards, so I went and googled up a VN Spam Thread. It just so happened to be on an Asherons Call board but it was a spam thread and I didn't care. So I snuck over there even though I am a Dark Age of Camelot poster and started spamming the hell out of the thread. It didn't take long until a couple of Moderators found me farming post counts.
